The Cat House on the Kings is a feline rescue, sanctuary, and adoption center. This organization prioritizes the safety and well-being of all cats that come into their care, ensuring that they will not be caged or euthanized during their stay. Cats are permitted to spend their lifetime in the sanctuary, so unless adopted, they will be cared for by The Cat House on the Kings for the rest of their nine lives.
The Cat House on the Kings is the largest cat sanctuary and adoption center in the state of California. The grounds sprawl over 12 acres along the Kings River, located in Parlier, CA. If you want to learn more about The Cat House on the Kings’ mission or their facility, keep reading below.
What Is the Mission of The Cat House on The Kings?
The Cat House on the Kings was created by Lynea Lattanzio nearly 30 years ago. Lattanzio’s passion for helping cats in need inspired her to dedicate her home, her land, and her finances to save as many cats as possible. This property became the headquarters of The Cat House on the Kings.
In the United States, around 6.3 million animals enter animal shelters each year.1 Among these surrendered animals, nearly 1 million are euthanized each year. These staggering numbers make it abundantly clear that this is a serious issue.
Therefore, the mission of The Cat House on the Kings is to rescue animals from dangerous situations, care for them, and place them into permanent and loving homes. Likewise, they are interested in caring for unwanted animals at their facility, providing them with plenty of space to roam. Furthermore, The Cat House on the Kings is invested in preventing animal overpopulation and educating pet owners about the responsibilities of animal ownership.
Throughout the decades, Lattanzio and others at The Cat House on the Kings dedicated themselves to rescuing tens of thousands of cats. This mission eventually expanded to include other animals besides cats. Animals have been saved from abandonment, pet shelters, abusive homes, and other dangerous situations. Likewise, The Cat House on the Kings has also helped thousands of animals receive important procedures, such as spaying and neutering.
Since the organization’s establishment, The Cat House on the Kings has saved over 30,000 cats. Over 7,100 dogs have been saved as well. These numbers do not include the 56,000 animals that the organization has spayed and neutered. Currently, The Cat House on the Kings is housing 700 felines and dozens of canines. They are even housing some peacocks!
As mentioned, The Cat House on the Kings is a no-cage, no-kill sanctuary. They are also a non-profit organization, meaning they receive no government or public funding. In order to continue carrying out their good work, they rely on generous donations. If you want to learn how to support The Cat House on the Kings, there will be more on that later.
The Facility
If you don’t live near The Cat House on the Kings, you may never be able to take a tour of the expansive 12-acre grounds. To satisfy your cat-like curiosity, we have broken down the most notable areas of the facility.
The Kitchen
This is where all the magic happens, according to the cats. Twice each day, a mixture of dry and wet cat food is hand-prepared for all of the cats and distributed across all 12 acres. According to The Cat House on the Kings, this task takes 2 hours for a team of 6 people to complete!
The Kitty Garden
This indoor room provides plenty of sunshine for cats to relax and take a cozy nap. It also offers an outdoor view and a loft for cats to enjoy. This room is helpful for adjusting new arrivals to the area, particularly adult cats who had previously spent their entire lives indoors.
The Condo Room
This room serves as a great transitional area for new arrivals. The kitty door allows free access to the outdoors, so cats can choose whether or not they want to be outside or inside of their own free will. It is called the “condo room” due to the many cubbies that line the walls.
The Pasture
Outdoors, there is a large, fully fenced-in enclosure that provides a safe place for cats to enjoy some fresh air. There are sheds, patios, and plenty of trees for cats to entertain themselves with.
How to Adopt from The Cat House on the Kings
