Dogs like it. Less wasteful than canned food.

I’ve always fed my dogs a mixed of canned and kibble. My pickiest dog prefers her moistened portion of food to be of pate consistency. The other two will eat anything I put in front of them. With the rising cost of everything, canned dog food has become quite a big expense, and also produces a lot more waste. The Honest Kitchen lb-per-lb is a more cost effective, less wasteful, and perhaps even healthier, alternative.I feed Honest Kitchen in conjunction with Purina Pro Plan kibble. It certainly doesn’t look appetizing to a human once its mixed, but my dogs seem to enjoy it. So far there has been no digestive upset or adverse reactions. My picky one especially likes it, and has even started licking her bowl to the point of spotlessness.

    Great dog food!

I have 3 chihuahuas and have tried so many dif foods for them. 2 of them gt bored with the same flavor all the time and 1 thts not picky is 12yrs old so i wanted one tht was good quality, lots of dif flavors, easy to eat (small dogs=small teefs and lots of teefs taken by dentist), and affordable. This brand checks all the boxes. We also use Stella&Chewy and Ziwi(this ones expensive!) The variety has been a game changer. I have had to tweek amounts cuz its easy to feed thm too much. I call it their doggie oatmeal cuz basically it is. We also get the harder crunchy food but i usually smash it up some for them.*One problem i did encounter is my oldest guy Gary ended up with extreme constipation cuz this food does have a higher carb count. It was not pleasant. An enima was performed cuz xrays just showed he was extremely backed up. Again I have small 7&8lb dogs. Anyways it was a rough few days. After tht I used more water with the mix and added a bit of freeze dried beef or chkn frm Stew&Chew also would alternate between this doggie oatmeal and Stew&Chew digestive food. Now we are good. Lessons were learned. Also another game changer was adding a green lipid mussel supplement mixed in once a day. Not only is everything moving out on time but he has so much more energy than he ever has. This lil 12yr old chihuahua named Gary gets major zoomies. He runs out of gas quick but he used to get pulled muscles or hip pains if he played too much…not anymore. Also another thing tht changed is his sinuses. He would gt sinus infections maybe 2-3 times a yr and now none since the shift. My other 2 dogs are very young but one guy Carl is part Italian Greyhound so he has long skinny legs and both is knees pop out every day. His elbows pop like crazy too. Hes a rescue n whn we got him 2yrs ago he had no hair on his chest and got rashes on his nose all the time n extremely skinny. Hes still skinny but now he has chest hair its very thin but thts the iggy in him. His knees ache less. And he gets very zoomy too. Our baby Birdie is just 2 but shes a chipom so I know i have to watch her diet cuz heart issues n diabetes run in her dna.Long review with extra stuff thrown in but I wanted to explain why we love this brand. (Along with others) Trying to find the right food has been difficult. Vets always recommend Hills or Royal Canine n they arent terrible but the nutrition in those blows my mind cuz it has corn n other fillers. Our dogs would gt so bored with those they would rather eat the grass they peed or starve than eat anymore of tht kibble. So in Conclusion….this brand is amazing! Affordable for our small 3 chihuahuas and I think its gonna help them live long healthy n happy lives!

No chunks, but great gravy and base for ….

I was disappointed that this didn’t look more like a stew to replace my canned food topper. It is more nutritious and easier to pack when traveling. Nonetheless, I wanted something that was more like the chunky canned food we were replacing. I ordered another dried product, which had NO gravy. I decided the ingredients and smell of the Honest Kitchen dog food made me try to make it work, so I mixed the two (first picture). Perfect. We have a winner here. I mix them in sealable container that lasts a month. Each day, I mix the morning and evening meals at the same time (second picture), add the 4Health kibble (third picture) we use, and wait a few minutes for the water to create a yummy gravy. By evening, the kibble in the second meal is soft, but no one seems to mind. I add a little more warm water and stir and it looks great. I know my pup loves it and I feel like he’s getting good nutrition that actually ends up costing less than a canned food topper. The big box of Honest Kitchen is enough for 3 bags of the other dried food pictured the way I’m mixing it. It’s easier to pack when we travel and there are no smelly cans to deal with. Win!

    Honest Kitchen Dog Food

My dogs seem to love this food, the only bad thing Is I have 4 dogs to feed and they are of different sizes. One large box doesn’t last one week for them. It’s says it’s 10lbs and with water added to it makes it 40lbs. Not happening.

    Drool worthy

My dogs absolutely love this food! I couldn’t get it ready gast enough without pools of drool on the floor. I love that it is made with organic ingredients, comes in a sealable bag to keep it fresh, and my dogs love the taste of it. I have bigger dogs, 1 is 70ish and the other over 100 lbs, so I buy lots of the large (10lb) boxes because we go through them fairly quick. It is pricey if you have large dogs, but totally worth it. I want to feed my dogs quality food to improve their health and for them to live longer lives.

    This diet saved my dog!

The media could not be loaded.

So my pup had a really uncommon medical emergency happen to her. She had intussusception ( which is basically the intestines telescope fold into eachother and it’s hard to diagnose since it doesn’t really show well on radiographs or ultrasounds) Which if not caught in time, most dogs only have about 3-7day survival. Starfire had a really bad case of it and ended up going into an emergency surgery after no one was finding anything on rad’s or ultrasound so I had a specialist take a look as time was ticking and she was getting worse each day. She became lethargic, pale and was leaking bloOd.She was rushed into surgery. So her small colon was taken out and her cecum. It was questionable she would survive. She had a fight in her though so her vet and me worked on finding a perfect very low fat and very high fiber diet. As now we were facing the issues of chronic diarrhea which can also be harmful.I spent days of research and finally came across this brand. The beef formula was exactly what she needed! It was expected for her to have chronic diarrhea with her disability now but within a 1.5months of being on this diet she started finally forming normal stools again! Her 3 vets were actually shocked!I’ve never seen her get so excited for feedings either! She literally started doing this once we made the switch! She’s thriving and recovering well! This food literally helped save my baby girl! Also it’s super easy to prep! I got a food container and make a couple days worth and it stores in the fridge and doesn’t smell weird or anything. I do notice once it goes in the fridge it gets more firm so I splash a little water on it before giving it- you don’t gotta do this it’s all on your dogs preference but I do it so she gets some extra hydration in her. Besides this food saving my girl, it’s actually really healthy! It’s all good stuff in there and not a bunch of unnecessary stuff. Just don’t get the grain free one. Dogs are meant to eat grains unless medically restricted from a licensed veterinarian. Hope my story sheds light on how great of a food this is!

My fur babies LOVE this food!!

For the past few months I’ve been extensively researching for a better food for my 3 small dogs, one is a schnauzer and the other two, yorkies since the the regular dry store bought kibble hadn’t been doing my little ones any favors, especially in the weight department. After giving up trying to find something better at the big box stores, I figured I’d have better luck on Amazon.I came across this product while looking at the Sojos brand of freeze dry dog food and figured I’d try this one first since it’s cheaper and would probably be better for weight loss and maintenance. One thing I always check is the ingredients and the nutrition panel when comparing different brands and flavors. With this particular food, I noticed that the ingredients on the list were fantastic with all of them free of nasty, harmful GMOs, and many of them being organic which is what I feed the human members of my family. Also worth mentioning, the ingredients are also human grade which is very reassuring so you know it’s higher quality and doesn’t contain questionable chemicals or ingredients like euthanized shelter animals (crude protein in many cheap-o brands of dog food, seriously. Look it up, it’s a real and tragic thing folks). On to the nutrition; If you have a puppy or active dog, this is probably not the best formula, and this company has many to choose from. I would say it’s best suited for the less active mature/senior dogs like mine. That said, since they have been eating this food, they’ve actually had more energy and want to play much more than they used to!The fat content in this particular food is very low in comparison to most other dog foods, the protein content is mostly from the beef and comes in at a moderate, but healthy percentage for omnivores (which I’m sure you know that dogs are omnis and not carnivores such as cats). Dogs absolutely need protein, however, too much protein can burden the liver. This formula also includes a nice panel of vitamins and minerals added in addition to the naturally occurring nutrients from the food’s wholesome ingredients.Out of the bag, it’s a super green powdery texture with small pieces of what appears to be fruit, oats and veggies. I have to say the first time I measured it out and examined it, I was concerned, especially when I added the hot water. However, once reconstituted and cooled, the product has a lovely thick texture and smell, which is easy for my dogs to eat and digest. For the preparation; Super easy! I just use a large Pyrex jug, fill it will purified water, microwave for a couple minutes then add in the correct amount of measured dry food from the package (which is a plastic resealable bag in a snug cardboard box). I let the food sit to fully absorb the liquid and to cool down, then feed to my anxiously waiting fur babies who are ready to gobble every last drop!!Tip; I personally like to add in some organic Turmeric into the hot water and create a lovely tea base full of antioxidants before adding in the dry mix to add more health promoting benefits. Using hot water creates a much better texture/reconstitution than if you were to add cold or cool water. The best part besides the fact my dogs love the taste and don’t waste, feeding time is easy, much more controlled since I am using this to help my dogs achieve a healthier weight, and this seems to last a long time. And, since the box is smaller, it is easier to store than a large bag of dry kibble, or many, many cans of moist dog food.So far the improvements I have seen in all three dogs has been: more energy, weight control/management, better health as per vet checkup since the last. They overall seem to be happier and, as long as this product stays on Amazons subscribe and save program which makes it more cost effective, I’ll continue to purchase because the quality I get from this is far better that’s what seems to be out there, as for right now.Hope this helps!

Our two weenie dogs LOVE this food. We’ve spent countless hours researching the best diet for our little guys and this proves to be the best AND something our dogs actually like. One is a VERY picky eater with chicken allergies so to find something good for him that he approves is a win-win for all. HIGLY recommend this food.

    allergy to food?

My 12 yr old Bichon loved the food but started scratching again. I gave him his homemade food again but added 1 T to it of Beef or chicken. the itching became worse till he was very red in a large spot. I took him off and went back to homemade food again and it has stopped. Is there something like a preservative that he could be allergic to? he also had a reaction to PetFresh ending up throwing up 9 times and it was pieces of the food. My King Charles Cavalier 12 yrs has had no problems with either food. It is so convenient to use when traveling, I’m beside myself and so disappointed. P.S. Dry food also caused itching!

Our dogs loved it at first, but now they’re kind of “Meh”

Our dogs absolutely loved this food when we first started giving it to them. They really seemed to be getting bored, even depressed, with the traditional dry food that we had been feeding them for years. Sure, we spiced things up from time to time, replacing beef kibbles and bits with other varieties of fake meat flavors, but dinner time had just become a monotonous routine for our pups. Their eyes sarcastically said it all. “Oh, gee thanks for the delicious meal you lovingly cooked for us mom and dad, it smells SOOO divine and I can’t wait to dig in! It’s TRULY to die for!” No, instead, they would let their food sit in the bowl for hours and just nibble at it, almost resentfully. Like a child not wanting to eat their Brussels sprouts, knowing that they couldn’t get any ice cream unless they finish it all, but hoping perhaps they can break your will to give in if they just drag it out just long enough. The first time we tried Honest Kitchen, you would have thought they were eating a $100 steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris. It seemed to invigorate their senses. For the first time in years, they truly seemed happy to be getting something that wasn’t scraped from our dinner plates. This zeal carried on for about a week, but each night you could tell that their $100 steak dinner was quickly becoming a $30 trip to Chili’s, and eventually, the dollar menu at Taco Bell. It was then that I realized, our dogs simply don’t like dog food. It doesn’t matter what kind of dog food it is, it all sucks compared to what they see us eating. For what we paid for this stuff, we could buy about 3 months-worth of Old Roy, and they’d be no less miserable. Now, if your dogs are NOT the picky type, then this may still be worth a try. It ain’t cheap, but it’s supposedly much healthier for them, though I haven’t performed independent laboratory tests to back that statement up. My wife swears that it will make them poop less because there’s no corn in it. This is a very intriguing prospect for me, since I am the resident lawn mower in our household, and therefore by proxy, the Vice President of Pooper-Scoopering. In fact, that’s about the only reason that I’m willing to continue trying a few different flavors of this stuff. But seriously, we’re also not the type of parents that feed their kids McDonalds every night. We want our dogs, and our kids for that matter, to be healthy, and to develop good nutritional habits. The only real downside to this product in my opinion, is the preparation, and you have to take that with a grain of salt, because I’m admittedly a lazy person. You have to measure the food and the water that gets mixed in at just the right ratio to give it the proper consistency, and then you have to let it sit for 3 minutes to fully hydrate the food. Even when you do it perfectly, it looks like the poop of a baby that just went to an all you can eat broccoli buffet. Seriously, I’ve changed diapers that look more appetizing than this stuff.I don’t think they understand me when I tell them this, but every night as I’m making their meal (ok, actually my wife makes it, but I still say this to them telepathically), I look at them sternly and say “You know, you really have no idea how good you’ve got it! In the time it takes us to warm the water for your gruel and stir it to the proper consistency, we could have put two scoops of dry food in your bowls, and been back on the couch watching Dancing with the Stars. There are dogs in third world countries that would gnaw off their own paws to live the kind of life you have here!”Bottom line, if your dogs are not picky, and you are concerned about the quality of the food you’re giving your dogs, this stuff is definitely worth a try. If your dogs are little on the finicky side, but you still want to give them healthy food options, also worth a try. I might just suggest that you start with a smaller variety pack to see which flavor best suits your dog’s palate before making an investment in a month’s worth of food that your distinguished pooch might turn his or her nose up to after a week (our dogs fall into this category, by the way). There’s still a risk that since they are getting something different each night while trying different flavors, they might still turn their nose up after a week when you invest in the ten pound bag. Finally, if your dog eats crunchy treats out of the cat box and you really don’t care, you should probably just go buy some Old Roy.Please click Yes if this review was helpful in making your decision to buy!

    Picky dog isn’t into it:(

My picky little girl will often skip meals even though she’s so active! We switch up her food often as she seems to like variety. She usually loves the new food we get her then gets tired of it! This food was a hard no for her and I’m so surprised. She likes it when I cook for her but doesn’t like this stuff. Such a bummer because it’s so convenient and healthy! Definitely love this brand though and will try their beef kibble next!

    Lost interest…

My dog liked the first two 10lb boxes but now has little interest and is visibly losing weight. I started mixing in her old Hill’s kibble and she will eat the whole bowl now but will only take a few bites if there isn’t kibble. You can see the increase in enthusiasm when I open and pour some of the Hill’s out.The Farmer’s Dog is great alternative but very expensive. I’ll probably mix homemade food with kibble rather than purchasing this product again.PS Food gave her very soft stools too…if that’s a concern for you

Instant healthy dog food with no waste

I’ve used this brand of dog and cat food for years on and off. Both my pups and kitties really enjoy it. My littlest chihuahua has been losing weight and so we decided to begin hand feeding this food to him. He is enjoying it and starting to put a little weight back on. We couldn’t do that as cost-effectively with canned food. This time, I got the 10lb box.

Puppy with nonstop diarrhea before verses after this food

I have a 15 week old puppy that we got at 7 1/2 weeks old. For about five weeks she was having nonstop diarrhea and really nasty smelling and frequent farting. We couldn’t figure out what was wrong, we had her on blue Buffalo dry kibble, and had tried some canned foods as well, and her tests for worms came back negative. So I was on the search for the healthiest dog food I can find, and that’s what I came across the turkey version of this at Whole Foods, even though she always ate her meal, she always ate it really slow, but I heard that a lot of Huskies are like that so I wasn’t too concerned. Once we started mixing this food with her other food, I have never seen her so excited about mealtime. Now when I’m in the process of mixing it she cries out in excitement. And it finally happened, her stools got solid, and her farts slowed down and weren’t as stinky. The only problem I have with this food is how expensive it is for how short of time it lasts, we ended up running out of this food, and didn’t have enough money at the time to buy more of it, so we had to bring her back to the normal dry kibble. She still ate it, but you could tell the excitement was gone, and it didn’t take too long until the diarrhea came back, and the frequent stinky farts came full blown. As soon as payday rolled around, I went on Amazon to see if I can find it cheaper, although it was around the same price, there was that subscribe and save feature for this chicken one that was a little cheaper than the turkey (we actually like the chicken one better than the turkey, even though she likes both, the chicken seems to mix better with water versus the turkey one which looked more liquidy so you couldn’t get as much out of it ).We were all excited when it finally came to the house, and sure enough her stools are solid again and her farts are less stinky… Again. To help save money, we’ve noticed that she’s doing just fine when we’re mixing the two foods together, not sure how that works but it does. So we are giving her about half a cup of the dehydrated food mixed with water, then mixed with some kibble, she is so obsessed, she even tries to lick her bowl CLEAN when she’s done, and likes to lick the spoon I am sturring it together with before she eats. There was even a point when we didn’t have anymore of the dehydrated food for over a week, and I was baking something so I put water in a bowl with flour and started mixing, Our little husky came running in the kitchen and crying thinking we were making her some food, LOL, that’s when I really started looking into buying her the food again, she really missed it. So bottom line, if you have a puppy that’s been having nonstop diarrhea or visible digestion problems, really try this food. And if you’re on a tight budget like we are, it still seems to work when you mix the two foods together, just obviously less of both.

Dog with pancreatitis and scratching/possible food allergy

My dog has pancreatitis and the vet put her on RX Science Diet ID LOW FAT. She was on that for about three years and I felt like something wasn’t right with her skin, but wasn’t sure what to do. She started scratching all the time, but I was afraid to not follow the Dr.’s orders. I decided to research and, long story short, for her pancreatitis I just needed to make sure she was on a LOW FAT FOOD. I compared the label to what she was on and decided to go with this because of the other reviews from people who had dogs with the same problem. The fat is 8.5% in Verve. The protein was also much higher in this than her RX food. HER SKIN PROBLEMS WENT AWAY. I don’t know what or why but this food just seems to be better. Period. Quality food. Also, she has had no bouts of pancreatitis problems and, even better than that, SHE LOVES IT! I am so happy because it’s actually cheaper than what she was eating and a whole lot easier to get because of home delivery. The icing on the cake is that I get it on my subscribe and save! So happy. What it’s like: Dehydrated powder food with recognizable bits of cranberry, oats, and carrots. Since it’s dehydrated, a 4 lb. box is the same as a 16 lb. bag of reg. dog food. I have a Yorkie/Maltese mix dog who weighs 6lbs. and she doesn’t quite eat a whole box per month so every couple months, we will just skip a delivery. Every two months wouldn’t be enough and every month is just a bit too often for her size if that helps anyone. You figure out what amount to feed your dog based on weight and activity level. She is supposed to get 1/4-1/2 cup OF DRY PER DAY. I don’t want her to be hungry, so I went with the 1/2 cup amt. So, twice per day I mix 1/4 cup dry with hot water ( I just eyeball it but it’s about 1/3 to 1/2 cup water) It’s not an exact science. She eats it however I make it. It starts out being runny and watery, but after about 3 min it thickens up to an oatmeal-like consistency and BAM! IT’S GONE! She inhales it. The only thing that isn’t great about this food is that the “free feed” method of feeding your dog will no longer be possible. This is best eaten freshly mixed. I was worried that I would forget to feed her, but she won’t let me! LOL She goes into the kitchen and knocks her bowl and then peeks around the corner and looks to make sure I got the message. I am happy that she seems to be healthy and not scratching and she thinks I am feeding her a special treat.***UPDATE*** we are still very happy with her health after switching to the VERVE, but after we tried another low fat recipe from The Honest Kitchen called ZEAL, she doesn’t like this recipe as much. SHE LOVES THE ZEAL. It is fishy and I think it stinks, but SHE LOVES IT EVEN MORE THAN THE VERVE.

    Dog won’t eat without toppers

Definitely doesn’t smell anything like human chicken. Smells and looks like oatmeal. Dog won’t eat without a topper, but at least he eats it all if mixed with a topper.

    My dog loves it

I’ve been using the honest kitchen dry kibble for over a year and my dog really loves it. As my dog has gotten older, she’s developed a very sensitive tummy and used to have very bloody bathroom situations due to food allergies but since switching to the honest kitchen, it’s very minimal. So when I saw that there was a dehydrated option, I decided to try it. It’s been a few days and from the start my dog was licking the bowl clean. The second day she was so excited when I served her her food and now it’s like comparable to the excitement of a treat. I am so happy I got this for her.I can see the oats in the little pieces of colors from the veggies. I love that I’m giving her something healthy. Plus, if you take a, whiff, not that it’s very aromatic, you can smell a very light chicken and vegetable scent. Which is so different from other dog food that just is so pungent, I’m very happy and so far the transition has not yielded any messy stomach reactions from my dog.

    Best dog food

My Havanese loves the Fish. The ingredients in all Honest Kitchen products are quality. It’s easy to mix and I don’t find the smell offensive at all. He’s an older dog with only a few teeth. His fur is soft. I’ve given my dogs Honest Kitchen for over 10 years. My cat loves it also (but it’s for dogs).

Seems healthy & my dog enjoys it

My Pomeranian really enjoys this food. She almost always eats it right up. I typically give it to her for breakfast because she eats it quickly. Then I give her hard kibble at night to help with her teeth. I’ve been getting it a couple of years now and would recommend.

    *EDITED REVIEW*

***EDIT: One of my dogs still very much loves this food and is upset that I started mixing it with dry food (she’s not a fan of dry food), but my other dog has not been doing great. I noticed he was acting lethargic and wasn’t his usual spunky self, and was sitting a lot more often than usual. I’d try to engage him in play and he would want to, but then just sit in the middle of play which is not like him at all. After reading all the bad reviews, I decided to limit Honest food for him to see if he would improve. I now give him mostly dry food and a LITTLE bit of the Honest food and he’s gotten a lot better. This past week, I had a work retreat so my niece watched my dogs, and she gave them a lot more of the Honest mush, and Gordo has been throwing up. So, I stopped giving him the Honest food as much as he wants it (he hesitates before he eats it, so that was also a red flag for me), but I’ll continue feeding it to Luna as she hasn’t had any negative side effects. Buyer, just be sure to really observe your dog’s behavior, or look for any reactions if you buy this food***I have two very picky Choodle Yorkie terrier mixes who disliked any dry food I would buy them. From Kibbles, to Purina, to other dry foods I cannot think of at the moment, they did not like it. They would tolerate it, but that’s for survival purposes. I decided to try this because Luna, I’ve learned throughout the years, is very sensitive. She often seemed to burp – like acid reflux – and I had to buy her Nexgard often because she would get a really bad rash on her tummy from the flea saliva (even though they don’t have fleas); though, I’ve often wondered if it was food allergies. They’ve been eating this food for almost two weeks now, and HER RASH DISAPPEARED!! She’s no longer desperately scratching, neither is Gordo, and they HAPPILY eat ALL their food. Which is a miracle! This is a little on the pricey side knowing that it’s not going to last me as long as a big bag of dry food, but for the health of my pups, it’s worth it.If you’re wondering if you should try this product, yes. Yes, you definitely should.

Extensive review on dehydrated dog food vs kibble.

If you really want to know about your pets health take a minute to read WHY this dog food is 20 stars BETTER than any 5 star kibble dog food. I graduated with a degree in Food Science so my information is credible. All foods (human or dog) consist of thousands of chemicals with particular bonding. These chemicals consist of vitamins, minerals, proteins, flavonoids, polyphenols ect. all providing benefits to the health of humans and dogs. Heat treating foods can destroy or alter these chemical compounds in a way that your body doesn’t get the health benefit. If interested I will explain one quick example, if not interested in my example skip next paragraph.Example:Its well known that steaming your vegetables is better than boiling in straight water. Why? Cause, vegetables especially, contain many beneficial flavonoids and when boiled in straight water these flavanoids are destroyed because high heat destroys them. Steaming vegetables over the boiling water preserves these flavonoids because the food is being cooked with water vapor. Same principle applies to protein in vegetables. Protein is a multi-folding molecule and in biochemistry they are categorized as primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structures. Generally, proteins start off in a quaternary structure and as the molecule undergoes heat process the molecule starts to unfold to its tertiary, secondary and primary structures. In terms of health, this effect is undesirable because protein in its quaternary structure is most useful for the body. When people say eat more RAW foods, you can think of eating foods that have not undergone any heat process (such as salads, fruits, nuts ect.) and therefore these foods have a lot of those flavonoids still available for your body to utilize. Now back to the The Honest Kitchen product, this food is heat processed BUT it is only heat processed at something like 160 degrees (hence why they call it dehydrated food). This is awesome because you’re preserving these precious proteins and flavonoids I talked about for your dogs body to utilize. Now most dry kibble is heat processed at temperatures around 500 degrees. At such high temperatures you are going to destroy a lot of these beneficial chemicals that your dogs needs. Now ready listen to this. Not only is this brand healthier for your dog BUT they will like the taste better too. I give my Australian Shepard half honest kitchen food and half kibble in his bowl (for financial reasons) and EVERY TIME he always eats the honest kitchen food first and eats the kibble last. My guess is, he likes the the honest kitchen food better because it is healthier for him (but obviously he does’t know that). If anyone reading this has any questions or comments please let me know because I am always eager for discussion. Hope your fury friend enjoys his new food if you decide to buy this product!-Joe

    Can’t reccomend more highly!

We recently switch our 7 uear old German Shepherd from a “healthy” kibble to Farmer’s Dog, and although it was whole food ingredients, it was quiet pricey and there was something in the formula that caused her to break out in a rash and become extremely itchy; she was incredibly miserable despite us checking for fleas, double checking ingredients in her treats and other potential causes. We decided to give Honest Kitchen -beef- a try. Initially I was skeptical about the dehydrated formula, but she absolutely LOVES it. Mind you, she’s not a picky eater by any stretch of the imagination, but holy smokes, you would think those three minutes of letting the food rehydrate would be three hours, lol! She comes running to the kitchen, and does an adorable tippy-tappy happy dance in anticipation. Plus, her skin has almost immediately cleared up since we switched her to Honest Kitchen. I would highly recommend giving this brand a try!

Dogs like it – good ingredients – WAY less food than they advertise

My dogs mostly like it. It’s great for them but them claiming 10 pounds makes 40 is absolutely false. They go through a box in 10 days and a bag of 20 pound kibble lasts them 14 days.

    Gentle recipe, high quality food

I switched to this brand a few years ago. My elderly dog had come to a point where he struggled to keep store bought food down. I was making food by scratch, which was a pain and I worried about micro-nutrients. Then I visited a friend who used this food and I gave it a try. My old man loved it and no stomach issues. I switched him over successfully, and my young dog. The old man passed peacefully of old age, healthy and happy. The young dog is now 4 years old and doing great! I use only full grain formulas, since dogs can have heart issues with grain free foods (check UC Davis publications for articles), though Honest Kitchen does test all food for taurine, an important micro-nutrient for dog health. Oddly, my younger dog can’t eat the kibble version. She loves it but gets too loose for some reason. This one needs mixing, but it’s way better than making food from scratch and a minor issue to ensure my dog gets high-quality, throughly tested food.

My dogs gobble this food up! It’s less expensive than what they were eating before (FreshPet and Costco kibble), simple, and the dogs seem to be satiated. A huge plus for us… one of my dogs has pretty sensitive skin and his belly constantly had itchy rashes that were crusty and would take out patches of fur. This went on for years. I tried salves and even gave him Benadryl every day. Nothing helped. Once the conversion to this food was complete, his skin healed up completely and very quickly. All his fur grew back and he seems much more comfortable.

It’s like when your town gets its first good restaurant!

Our Pups are in Food Nirvana! They absolutely love Their Honest Kitchen meals! When its time to eat they are as so excited… Its like how I get when I order a Double Double Animal Style at In N Out Burger. We have two young Frenchies and an older Maltese. All 3 been fine dining on Honest Kitchen food for 6 months now. We prepare it with hot water and mix it up like oatmeal (which is great as I will explain in a moment). Our frenchie Jax was the biggest concern before we found the HK food option…. food allergies, rashes, kibble regurgitation, bowel issues….. you name it, it was no fun for Jax. He started on the “Grain Free” version of HK 6 months back. Everything is good! No rashes, no getting sick, normal bowels…. its like he’s a new man. He’s happy, and you know the french aren’t always the happiest people. Cooper, our 1 yr old frenchie loves it. At 9 months he was a bit of load…. 6 months later he looks like Chris Hemsworth with an under bite! Chloe our 13 yr old Maltese could care less about eating her whole life. She only only cared about looking pretty. Well even fashion models get old…The last few years its been harder for her to eat because it hurts her teeth. On the Honest Kitchen she has become a foodie. In fact, when its time to eat, just get out of her way or you’ll lose a finger! She did not do any of the following things for 12 years…but now, oh my god, she’s annoying…. Barking to tell us that it’s time to eat at the exact time each day (She will come and find me in my office and stare at me); Licking her bowl for a good 5 minutes after she’s finished; Checking the other dogs bowls and licking them: going back to her bowl and licking it again. If she had an Amazon Prime acct we would be in serious trouble! The best thing is that the Honest Kitchen smells like Thanksgiving Dinner! I actually get hungry when I make their Honest Kitchen meals, which is a far cry from dry heaving whenever we had to feed them wet food from the can. Honest Kitchen is like Thanksgiving Oatmeal. Maybe that’s what the should name one of their flavors! It may cost a bit more than other options but after all these are your fur babies. Keep them happy and healthy but do yourself a favor and get rid of the metal dog bowls or all the licking will sound like a really bad band is in your laundry room (Thats where Chloe eats)!

    Absolutely LOVES this food!

I wanted to add a human grade product as a complete topper. I already add cooked chicken and probiotics. The Honest Kitchen Whole Grain Beef Recipe was an INSTANT hit! My Springer couldn’t wait for me to put her bowl down. She totally cleaned her bowl and enjoyed every bite. I’ll be buying more since I’m using it as an “add on” to enhance her regular food. I appreciate the human grade ingredients and she thinks they’re darn good, too!

Amazing but the prices are changing

I have two golden retrievers. The cream is Comet and the golden is Cupid who are both around 85-90lbs. Comet loves to eat everything but Cupid is a VERY picky eater. I tried everything: Dry dog food, wet dog food, and homemade food. He didn’t like anything at first but has to end up eating anyways because obviously he has to eat. I never tried refrigerated or frozen dog food because that is very expensive. I am on a strict budget but I want my dogs to have the best diet so they can be healthy and happy. I did the measurements for the “giant” which is 71-90lbs and when the food and water was combined, the entire bowl was full! I ordered two boxes which will last an entire month for them both. I ordered the chicken recipe. I hope I can get other flavors in the future but unfortunately they’re much more expensive at the moment. Two boxes cost $100 a month for two dogs so I recommend one box per dog if you have big breeds. If you have small breeds then you’ll save a lot more money!!! Anyways what I payed for isn’t too expensive. For big breeds, high quality dry dog food or wet dog food can be $80-$100 a month, refrigerated dog food or frozen dog food can be up to $400+ a month, and the homemade food I made costed me around $200+ a month!!! Also homemade food is very messy and very time consuming for a weeks worth of food. Both of my dogs ate everything and i’m so happy they loved it. Thank you so much!!!Edit: My dogs still love it but what is going on with the prices? 3 weeks ago, one box was $50 and now it’s $70…Edit #2: The new price is now $84…

    SAVES ME HOURS!

With 4 rescue dogs with differing ailments, we started to make our own dog food. We quickly realized how much time it was taking to make sure it was fresh and balanced…not to mention a TON of food. We slowly introduced Honest Kitchen and the dogs love it just as much as the homemade food and with the time it saves, the cost is pretty much the same as kibble. Our dogs are less itchy maintaining a healthy weight. Highly recommend.

Before this easy to use product, Minnie was bored with her kibble & was a picky eater. When the vet recommended a few products to try, I found this premium, human grade, dog food. Not only does she love it, but I noticed her coat is shiny and no more dry flakes.I now have it on auto-ship, so we never run out. Great product!I just mix it in with her regular kibble and add some warm water. She literally jumps up and down for it.

Do not subscribe, won’t be able to return! Good value, easy to make, not very digestible though.

Upon first serving the my dogs seemed to really like it. Over the course of 3 weeks all three dogs are snubbing and not caring for it. It gives them terrible loose stool and they keep doing their business in their crates. Its not digesting easily for them and I was going to cancel the subscription but they sent me another box early so im suck with a whole 10lb box that will not be eaten and I can’t return. It’s super easy to make, doesn’t smell terrible and it’s a great idea that didn’t work for my 3 little guys. I’m sure its great for other dogs.

    It’s healthy

My dog loves every Honest Kitchen I’ve fed her. She itches a lot so I tried the grain free turkey before trying this whole grain turkey. She’s also had the fish. I’ve only had her since October and it’s now July.I think she may be itching more eating the whole grain turkey than the grain free one, but I know she also needs variety. Maybe the itching is worse because it’s summer. I’m determined not to put her on a steroid medication. So next time, I’ll most likely go back to the dehydrated fish. She is a shelter dog so I know nothing about her background except that I can see she has been licking the tops of her back feet for sometime. So far, none of the Honest Kitchen dehydrated foods have given her any relief. Maybe her problem isn’t food related. She also gets liquid quercetin and sometimes licorice for itching.I chose the Honest Kitchen dehydrated foods because there seem to be fewer recalls on them than any other food. She is healthy and her skin is shiny. I do believe it is honestly a good food. And not a kibble!

You get what you pay for

Usually, I don’t even bother writing a review (this is my first one ever) but The Honest Kitchen truly deserves a praise. I hope my review helps those fur moms and dads who are spending countless hours and hard earned money looking for the best food for their fur babies.I got one chocolate (2 years) and one yellow (1.5 years) Labrador Retrievers. I had my dogs on Purina and Wellness but they didn’t like any of their food so I tried home cooking meals (after spending crazy amount of money to get recipes from a vet who specializes in home cook meals) for a few months but this was so time consuming. After spending hours- searching for food online for a month, I finally came across The Honest Kitchen! I was a little skeptical at first so I visited a local dog store and asked a few questions… They gave me free samples and highly recommended The Honest Kitchen brand out of all the other brands they carry. My dogs loved all of The Honest Kitchen samples- Turkey, Chicken, Beef. It seemed a little pricey at first but it was totally worth it when I saw my dogs licking their bowls for 10 mins even after there was nothing left.I have been feeding my labs The Honest Kitchen for over a year now. Tried Turkey, Chicken, Beef, Duck, and Fish. They love all of them. I use grain-free for my yellow lab due to itching issue. I got my yellow lab when he was 5 weeks old (had no choice) and he cried everyday due to itchy skin (this is when I had him on Purina, Victors and Wellness…tried grain and grain-free version) but as soon as I switched him to The Honest Kitchen, he wasn’t itching as much. When I switched him to Grain-free version of The Honest Kitchen, he stopped itching period – My Chocolate Lab also didn’t have “white flakes” all over his fur anymore once he started eating The Honest Kitchen. I do give them fish oil time to time but not as much as I used to when I had them on Purina or Wellness. My only complain was that The Honest Kitchen food made my dogs poop a lot. But I no longer see that as a bad sign. It’s a lot better than being constipated. I mean think of it this way- you eating Fast Food for months vs. you eating greens and meats (real food) … wouldn’t you be sitting on your toilet more often when you eat healthy? That being said, if you have dogs who do not enjoy their meal time anymore or dogs who have itchy skin then try The Honest Kitchen. Oh, I should also add that my labs lost weight with The Honest Kitchen. My Chocolate Lab was at 84lbs (ideally, he should be at 72lbs for his size) and I still give him treats such as apples, bananas, and greek yogurt but he is now at 78lbs. My yellow lab on the other hand (83lbs before) is now down to 72lbs. I do find The Honest Kitchen pricey compared to the other brands. However, I truly believe this will save you a lot of money in the long run… And seeing my dogs wagging their tails… is just priceless!

Okay… you want a ‘honest’ review?

I am a 30 yr old w a 3 year old boxer. She has always been on a store bought “organic” diet… first w Blue Buffalo, then their Wild series cause I thought more protein would be good, and then I eventually went and tried Merrick’s grain free us made food. Get my drift? She (my dog) has typically been healthy and on a decent diet. Now for the good part…. so I began dating another dog lover. She has a black small to medium sized dog who is a mix must. Some beagles hound lad mix of whatever. She kinda of rescued her dog from her mom who didn’t have time for her or money for her…. her dog has some issues. I haven’t been in the vet office w them (gf and her dog) at all… but I know the vet always, ALWAYS tries to prescribe medications and monthly shots to the dog. The dog has had health issues for a long time… constantly itching, like always, to the point of annoyance… to the point where she bleeds. Scratching.g or chewing herself raw. Very sad. Also misshapen body do to over feeding and honestly tumors (which I think we’re checked and not cancerous, not 100%). Like if you saw her dog, you would get sad… looked like death. Missing hair do to itching and going crazy on herself, smelled, shabby and bleeding etc etc. Yea… tell me about it.They both moved in a while ago… and while at the drugstore getting my dog food I saw Honest Kitchens food. I didn’t know about them and I was interested in it. My gfs dog had always had the cheap name brand dog food. All the good ones who see one tv or Wal-Mart for like 15 dollars a big bag. Those awesome brands you know (that’s sarcasm btw). So I decided to take a chance and give it a trail run not just for my dog but my gfs dog too. This was a big risk… cause it’s a 10lb bag for 2 dogs different sizes and the kicker was at the store it costs $100+ for 1 bag. I bit the bullet and tried it.It was awkward at first…. for me. The prep, the waiting, the will they even eat this soupy oatmeal type junk?I see people write that my dog is picky and won’t eat it and etc etc…Honestly… my dogs killed it. KILLED IT. It doesn’t sit in the bowl for more than literally 60 seconds…. it’s annoying… why? Cause they lick the damn bowl so much that they scout it across the tile floor… yea making that fun sound haha. I’ve tried most the meat bags now and with the same sounding results. The best part is this… We’re about 2 maybe 3 months into using these products. Jasmine hair, skin, and overall temperament is almost night and day. She isn’t 100% by any means but her skin is getting better day by day and her hair is growing again. Rarely itches or chews herself anymore. She is more energetic esp around food time. I thought it was just me seeing results.. however when people come over that know about the death dog they also comment on how well she is doing and looking now. Needless to say I think we’ve turned some people on to the honest kitchen for that reason. My dog even benefits from it as well… more lean, coat is amazing, energy, healthy poops…. Like those dogs could win prizes for those things man.Give it a shot… try these out. It’s worth every penny and every pain staking minute of the 5 min prep time wait. You’re just lazy ;)… if you care you will take the time and spend the dime. Kudos honest kitchen, kudos.

    Pricey but worth it

I researched affordable, high-quality puppy food, and this one fit the bill perfectly. My puppies love it, and it doesn’t cause any stomach issues. I combine it with the dehydrated puppy food clusters, giving them half of each, and they’re thriving on it. Their shedding has noticeably decreased, and their stools are normal now—before, my female’s poop was almost black and very hard. This food has really made a positive difference! The only thing I don’t like is the resealable bag—it’s not easy to close securely. I ended up buying containers to store the food instead, and that solved the problem.

MY DOG GOES NUTS OVER THIS FOOD!

My dog has never been a fussy eater; she’ll eat anything, but with this, she literally jumps up and down when i’m making it and gets so excited. Licks her bowl so clean that the bowl is in another room by the time she’s done. Tried this on my BF’s dog who IS a picky eater, and he loved it as well! Can’t believe how much they love this. Right now, I’m mixing half of this with half dog kibble….so far so good! Will definitely buy again!

Where do I even begin with this Dog Food. My only complaint is that I did not find and use it sooner.I was feeding my dog Blue as I thought I was doing the best I could for my dog. While she did OK at first she started spitting it out all over the floor. She also would not eat until her stomach would growl, so I know she didn’t enjoy her food. I tried other flavors but it was all the same. Then one day I purchased a bag that was missing all Life Source bits , the stuff they claim holds all the extra vitamins and power. The company told me the bits are no different than the rest of the food. Meaning they don’t do anything extra as their commercials boast, I was safe to just feed her the bag with out them.I was done with processed dog food.I did a lot of research, even looked at the “freash” Bologna looking food in the refrigerated section and was not at all pleased. When I found this company everything was different. Their website is packed full of every bit of information you could ask for.I did some research about their claims and found no issues. Also, the fact that they had their food certified safe for human consumption mattered. They do not even allow any products on the property that are not safe for humans to eat.I purchased a trial box to check it out. It is just like making Oatmeal and it actually smelled like food. Not dog food. I could also see all of the things they claim to put into their food right there in the bowl.Is it pretty to look at? NO, it’s food. It’s real food. We are so used to everything being appealing to the eye. You don’t need artificial colors or shapes for your dog food. You need good nutrition. So of course I decided to make the move. In fact I didn’t even switch over gradually I just gave it to her and removed the kibble for good. She didn’t have a single problem and finally…she ate when I gave it to her. No more waiting until late at night or listening to her tummy growl. One of my orders…the bag at the very bottom got a hole in it. You could tell it was done by the seal which probably got caught on something. Still, they wanted my food to be fresh as they made it and had a new box sent out immediately. They even wanted the lot number from the box to keep in case they see anymore issues besides just my own. It’s so comforting to know that the food I’m feeding my much loved pup is being made by a company who takes their job serious and stand behind their promises.I worked it out financially and I’m actually spending less than I was before. It’s also really, really nice not having to deal with big bags of dog food. The boxes are made to look so nice that I just keep it out on my the counter. This is a move I know I was right to make.

(BEFORE & AFTER!) …& Actually CHEAPER than Walmart Kibble- and MUCH Healthier!!

On cost- even Nutro from Walmart is $3.78 Lb, but since u add this with water, it comes out to be $3 per Lb, plus you’re feeding your dog something HEALTHY, and not just God knows what in hard, dry, boring kibble!! I have a little Toy poodle who prefers to “lick” at his food, and not spend enough time properly chewing anything. This solves both those problems!! I thought it was funny people saying it gives diarrhea, as if anything, we had the opposite experience. I order the Stella & Chewys “Carnivore Crunch”- then break up ONE piece over the top to get him going! lol! The Beef is great, however the Chicken smells a bit too strong of Bananas:( I haven’t tried the other formulas yet. I trust this brand. When I rescued my dog, he was in terrible condition – just really bad health, and I would break up his dog food really small and add the Honest Kitchen beef stew gravy over the top. I saw him go from being at deaths door practically, to being a super healthy, happy dog in no time! His hair, eyes, nails, everything is so much better, all because of the Honest Kitchen. Thank you The Honest Kitchen!🙏🏻🙏🏻

My experience I am satisfied, but can see how others might hestiate.

I am on the third box of Keen and plan to continue to buy it. I can’t afford the more expensive brands of Honest Kitchen but if they go on sale I would buy them. I originally purchased Keen because I like to have an extra dog food in the house, just in case of an emergency and it seemed to make sense to alternate the usual high grade brand kibble with a dehydrated dog food, if only because ease of handling a dehydrated food and the space limitations in the laundry room. At each meal I dehydrate the food, then mix it 1:4 with KibblePOSITIVES:Price wise it is about the same as the higher priced ‘better’ dog food at the local pet store. The older dog seems to have better control of her bowels since using Keen and has maintains a high level of energy. The younger dog who is more picky eats it without hesitation, with an energy level extremely high.Since using Keen my dogs although healthy in the past, the biggest pro for Keen is I think they are in better condition now and appear to be less greedy between meals Both dogs have slowly turned away from begging throughout the day for their usual big box store treats. I hope this is because the a better grade of food is more satisfying therefore justifying the extra cost.NEGATIVESAlthough I don’t really get excited about any dog food brand – they all seem to have negatives at some point, so far, so good with Keen, but recognize most dogs get bored with any same food routine eventually. I think it is important to ‘rotate’ or vary a dogs food and dog food types – canned, kibble, dehydrated etc so can’t recommend just one dog food.I dont know anyone who is interested in mail ordering dog food nor wants to mix it, nor do they care if it is easy to store. Nor does anyone seem interested in the ‘human grade’ endorsement of the Honest Kitchen brand. Most people I know are completely satisfied with their average priced dog foods. Keen price turns people off QUICK.I have seen no improvement in my dogs coats. The older dog is a purebred, their coat was fine before and seems the same since on Keen.Neither had any skin conditions previously, nor have they had any skin condition issues since using Keen.First time buyers DO order a sample or buy a small size box first.Overall If your able and willing to spend the extra money and time on your pets food and don’t mind ordering dog food on-line I would recommend Keen based on my own experience.

Would Give It 6 Stars If I Could

After much research into different types of dog food, I felt discouraged and began to feel I would have to home prepare the food. Then I discovered the Honest Kitchen brand. I priced all the items I would need to make the food myself and found Honest Kitchen’s food was cheaper. Now they really had my attention. I began with a few samples from their direct website. My dogs ate it like it was a treat; a reaction I’d only previously received when feeding them salmon or peanut butter. So I shopped around for the best price and landed here on Amazon with the subscribe and save delivery.I have tried two varieties so far, Keen turkey and Verve beef. One of my three dogs became disenchanted with the beef one and stopped eating it, despite my numerous attempts at coaxing her. However, they all love, love, love this turkey one. Winner, winner, turkey dinner. Personally, I also like to add a little salmon oil for their heart and skin health (I use the Grizzly brand). This is more affordable for me than purchasing the seafood Honest Kitchen variety. Now here’s how I like to make it. My 40lb dog gets a 1/2 cup (8oz) of food and my two 10lb dogs get 1/8 cup (2Tbsp/2oz). I then squirt in the appropriate amount of salmon oil. For the water, I like it hot, just below boiling. This makes the food form better and also smell better to the dogs, thus becoming more appetizing. The amount of water I put in is 50% more than the dry food, so 3/4 cup (12oz) for the larger dog and 3/8 cup (3Tbsp/3oz) for the little ones. Then I let it sit about 5 minutes to give it time to thicken and also cool down a bit. I test the temperature of the food before feeding it to them always.Meanwhile, while I am doing this, three very eager dogs are driving me crazy. The sheepdog is crying the whole time as if waiting for the food is the worst punishment ever. The chihuahua is jumping up and scratching the back of my legs. The mini dachshund is barking demandingly and sometimes hops in circles. The entire circus act with the three of them is quite ridiculous. When they finally get their food, they go at it like crazy and lick their bowls clean. I guess that’s a five star rating from them. It’s a five star rating from me too!

    Great for my dog’s guts

My dog had Giardia very messy bowel movements and I’ve tried all kinds of products, some which worked okay and others that didn’t work at all. After using The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Whole Grain Dog Food, his poops are normal and his guts have settled down. I use this product as an addition to his dry food. He weighs 70lbs and I put 3-4 Tablespoons in his bowl, add warm water, stir and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I mix it with his dry food and he gobbles it up. Not only is it healthy for him but, in the long run, it saves me money that I don’t have to spend on specialty products and meds.

    It’s a yes from a picky husky

I don’t usually leave reviews but I have a Husky who has been picky about his food since I’ve had him (but dirt seems to be fine..)I was nervous in switching his food since it could be a hit or miss, but his other food was just getting too expensive.Happy to say he devoured his dinner and left his bowl squeaky clean.Thank you for making my dog and my wallet very happy!!

    Watch for outdated food

I love this product. Feed half the rehydrated food and half kibble twice daily. I bought this in December 7, 2024, and just noticed the Best Buy date is 10/26/24. That’s likely why it’s on sale.

Our dog’s love this dog food. For about 3 years now we’ve feed our Goldendoodle and Giantsnoodle three different flavors of the Honest Kitchen dog food. They devour it and ask for more.

    They Love it, but expensive!

My three medium to large dogs love it, however, it’s very expensive compared to the regular dry food I’ve been giving them for years (Purina One True Instinct). I was looking for something more nutritious and somewhat of a wet food. Found this and bought it thinking it would be as much food or more than the 16.5lb bags I’ve been getting. Boy was I wrong. The 10lb box says it makes 40lbs worth of food. This is very misleading. I give them 1 cup of food & 1 cup of water twice a day and at this rate I will be out of food in 1 week. $70 a week is pretty steep comparitively. Each dog is picky in their own way, one will go for a couple days without touching her food if she’s tired of it, one will throw it up due to occasional upset stomach, the last pretty much eats anything but doesn’t like sweet things. They all love this stuff, but can I afford it? That’s the question. I’m going to try mixing with dry food to extend the box. It sure smells better than typical dry food though.

Helps get more water in my dogs diet

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I use this as a liquid topper over their dry kibble and canned wet food for variety. I add extra water to the mix making their food bowls into more of a stew/soup consistency. My dogs are not big water drinkers during the day, so this helps me get more water in their systems. I have been feeding this to my dogs since 2019 as a watery topper gravy. With no issues as far as intestinal upset. I would advise if your going to try this introduce into your dogs diet a little at a time in the beginning to allow their systems to get used to it.

My dogs prefer the chicken, but I love knowing they are staying hydrated and eating healthy food

I’ve been feeding my dogs The Honest Kitchen Whole Grain Chicken Recipe, which they love, so I decided to try the Turkey flavor for variety and it was cheaper for some reason. Unfortunately, my dogs don’t seem too fond of this one—they sniff it and hesitate before eating, but they do eventually eat it. It’s disappointing because I love the quality and human-grade ingredients that Honest Kitchen offers and I loved that the turkey flavor was about $10 cheaper. That said, I’ve found that preparation makes a big difference with this food. Here’s my method:Add warm water to the dehydrated food and let it sit for a few minutes. I feed my dogs 1/3 of a cup of the “oatmeal” and add about the same amount of water.Stir, then add a bit more water (like 1/3 of a cup more) as the mixture thickens since the food continues to absorb water. Sometimes I add even more water, it seems the longer it sits the more water it absorbs. After about 10 minutes, the food reaches a consistency similar to human oatmeal, which my dogs love. This method not only enhances the texture but also ensures your dogs stay hydrated and get plenty of fluids—a big plus, especially if they don’t drink a lot of water otherwise. While I’ll probably stick with the chicken flavor going forward, I still appreciate the brand’s overall quality and commitment to healthy ingredients.

    Great food for sensitive stomachs

My dog kept having stomach upsets to kibble, no matter how high end. Not to mention all the sleepless nights and $$$ in vet bills. As soon as we fed her cans of ID she would get better, but we couldn’t afford 3-4 cans of ID a day so after long research I found the closest thing to it, which was this food. Thank you Honest Kitchen for solving my pups problem, no vet can figure out what was going on with her and poor baby looked like a walking skeleton. She has been on this for a few months now without any issues, has gained back all the weight that she lost due to kibble. Got all her playful energy back, looks good and feels good. Never going back to kibble again!

    Wonderful quality!

My three greyhounds really enjoyed this food. We use several tablespoons as an addition to their kibble. It really boosts the nutritional value and they love the taste! Good quality, real ingredients, and brings their meals in in to a different level.
