1. Maru

Even the name Maru sounds sweet and adorable, which is exactly what this anime dog from Kimi ni Todoke is like.

In the show, Maru is a cute, stray dog that was found and they love to act like a regular dog, chewing on bones and running around the yard.

If you happen to own a little white dog, this could be the perfect name for them.

2. Gin

There aren’t many dogs that star in their own anime, but Gin is one of them.

Starring in the anime Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, Gin is courageous and displays lots of leadership with the pack as an Akita.

This name choice might also be a good one if you are a fan of alcoholic beverages as well, which you will have in common with me.

3. Ein

From the famous Cowboy Bebop, Ein is one of the dogs that doesn’t have the ability to speak but looks sweet anyway.

Based on the loveable Corgi, Ein is very intelligent, which makes sense considering the name is short for Einstein.

4. Den

Den is a loyal companion in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and is one of the most affectionate in the anime world.

However, she knows when to keep strangers at bay and those threatening her family by barking at them. Den makes for a great name, regardless of your pup’s gender.

5. Akamaru

Akamaru, from the incredibly popular anime Naruto, is a skilled ninja, but they are also extremely cute.

What I love the most about this name is that it can be split into Aka and Maru for short and sweet nicknames that your dog can respond to.

6. Ruth

One of the more human names on this list, Ruth is from The Ancient Magus’ Bride.

While he might look a little scary with red eyes and a shaggy black coat, they are the most loyal companion someone could ask for.

If you think your dog will be the same, this is the perfect name to choose.

7. Iggy

This name is as cute and unique as the dog in the anime JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure).

In the anime, Iggy is a Boston Terrier from New York, but they are a little manic at times.

If you happen to have a hyperactive puppy on your hands, this might be the perfect name to choose.

8. Tobimaru

If you have a Shiba Inu pup, then this anime dog from Stranger: Mukou Hadan (Sword of the Stranger) has the perfect name.

Tobimaru is helpful, faithful and looks absolutely adorable.

Again, this name can be shortened to either Tobi or Maru, but my personal favorite is Tobi.

9. Apo

Apo is short for Apollo, so I guess you could call your dog that too, but Apo himself is from the anime Space Brothers.

This cute pug is one friendly dog and gets along with just about everyone, which is the same for most real-life dogs.

10. Shiro

You’ll probably recognize Shiro from Hoozuki no Reitetsu, who looks sweet and fluffy, but actually works in animal hell to punish people who abused animals in their life.

Honestly, we can’t be mad about that, and it shows how dynamic of a dog he really is. This makes for a great and unique dog name if you choose it.

Anime TV shows and movies are great places to look for name inspiration.  They are so unique and different, which counts for a lot!

Personally, I think all these names are perfect, so you might have a little difficulty choosing your favorite from our top 10!

  • Nicole

Hi there! I’m Nicole, the editor-in-chief and one of the writers here at DogVills. I’ve been a dog owner for most of my adult life and a dog lover for much longer than that. I grew up with a wonderful German Shepherd named Jake, who I loved SO much that I named my son after him. When I’m not writing for DogVills or my own site, Pretty Opinionated, I love spending time with my teenager (when he actually lets me) and my Pharaoh Hound, Freya. I’m also an avid reader AND a total TV fanatic.
